Why the WWE championship is defended in the Rumble match
The WWE championship being defended in the Royal Rumble match was not the initial plan that WWE had .They wanted to do something with John Cena – but since Cena suffered a big injury – the plan was revamped. The current angle for Royal Rumble is to let Triple H win the WWE championship and set up a WrestleMania bout with Reigns.
